They are only out for a buffet spread once a year at the renowned Kuching Old Court House during the month of Ramadhan. During this holy month, muslims abstain from food from dawn to sunset. This has since created a culture of having a breaking fast 'feast' where food operators offer various deals for breaking fast meals. They usually come in buffet spreads to give a variety of food and beverages.
This year's Food Journal's buffet at the Kuching Old Court House comes with more than just food; diners are encouraged to take photos of the food, decorations and crowds and join the competition which promises up to RM688 cash voucher as the grand prize.
Arriving just about 10 minutes before the breaking of fast, many are seen with food on the table. A few people were going around taking photos with professional cameras clicking away. Others do selfies. It was just a good size, not overcrowded type of environment.
The stage at a corner caught my attention as I thought the set up was pretty interesting. They have all the childhood candies and toys everyone is familiar with. It is a sort of charity corner where you're free to grab your favourite childhood sweets with a token of donation which would be channeled to the Sarawak Children Cancer Society (SCCS). I think it is a brilliant and creative idea.

The food was generally good. I enjoyed the BBQ lamb particularly as they are tender and cooked to perfection. The satay was irresistible as well. Other food worth trying are the fritters (
cucur), ulam-ulaman and
nasi kismis. A sugar-resisted me even gave into the temptation of slurping some spiced milk tea just because it is a 'once-a-year' thing.
After a full stomach, it is always recommended to stroll along the waterfront, which is just opposite the Old Court House. Crossing the darul Hana bridge would be a bonus. Otherwise, just the night lights are cool enough to play with a night mode on a Huawei phone!
